Ghanas squad depth will be tested when the Black Stars open their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign against Ivory Coast in Bouak on Thursday.The Black Stars have been hit by a number of withdrawals, with Mohammed Kudus, Baba Rahman, Alidu Seidu, Jordan Ayew, Antoine Semenyo, Prince Adu Kwabena and Nathaniel Adjei among those unavailable.Despite the absences, Ghana will have experienced players available as they look to compete against their West African rivals.Goalkeepers Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Benjamin Asare are expected to provide experience, while Alexander Djiku offers leadership in defence.Ernest Nuamah and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku are also among the regular players Ghana can call upon for the Group C opener.The Ivorians head into the game under highly-rated manager Herv Renard and will have several key players available.Franck Kessie, Yan Diomande and Nicolas Pepe are all expected to start for the Elephants as they seek to take advantage of home support.The match at Stade de Bouake is scheduled for 19:00 GMT on Thursday, September 24.After the opener,Ghana will host The Gambia in their next group match on Tuesday, while Ivory Coast travel to face Somalia.The opening two rounds will give both Ghana and Cte dIvoire an early opportunity to make a strong start to their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaigns.
